Combining colors seems complicated, but it follows simple rules. Master the basics and you (or he) will never again be stuck in front of the closet.

Start with the neutral base

Neutral colors go with almost everything and are the foundation of any men’s wardrobe: white, black, gray, navy and beige/khaki. If most of your pieces are neutral, putting looks together becomes automatic.

Combinations that never fail

  • Navy + white — elegant and fresh.
  • Gray + black — modern and versatile.
  • Beige + white + blue — light, great for warm weather.
  • Jeans + white shirt — the classic that always works.

The rule of colorful details

Want to wear a bold color (red, green, mustard)? Use it in small doses: an accessory, a tee under a neutral coat, a pair of socks. The base stays neutral; the color is the seasoning.

Common mistakes to avoid

  1. Mixing too many bold tones at the same time.
  2. Too many prints competing with each other — choose one per look.
  3. Ignoring your skin tone: lighter skin calls for contrasts; warmer skin harmonizes with earthy tones.

Golden rule: at most 3 colors per look. Less is more.

With the neutral base mastered, dressing well stops being luck and becomes a habit.
